About the Author

Jan Austin is an organizational coach, platform speaker and author with over twenty years experience as an organizational leader and entrepreneur, and ten years experience as an independent coaching and consulting professional supporting organizational leaders to lead with distinction. She has worked with over a thousand organizational leaders in a variety of industries, including the Fortune 500, small business and the U.S. government. 

Jan’s clients have included Wells Fargo, SPIRIT AeroSystems, the U.S. Department of Transportation, the Federal Aviation Administration, the U.S. Department of Labor, Marsh At Work Solutions, AmerUs Capital Management, Eastman Kodak, Abbott Laboratories, Marriott, Ernst and Young, Afterburner Seminars, Smith Barney, People’s Bank, NRT, The Federal Women’s Program, The Federal Aviation Administration’s Hispanic Coalition, Kitchell Corporation and Frito-Lay. Her work with Eastman Kodak included strategic culture change consulting, coaching and leadership development for more than 400 leaders at all levels during a three-year engagement and was featured in both Fortune and Time Magazines in 2000. In 2004 she was selected from over 400 candidates to serve on the executive coaching faculty for the Federal Executive Institute, the US government’s leadership university.

An expert in the area of signature leadership, Jan is the author of What No One Ever Tells You about Leading for Results: Best Practices from 101 Real-World Leaders (Kaplan, November 2006). She speaks at corporate meetings and leads programs on leadership topics such as “Becoming a Signature Leader,” “Developing Strategic Leadership Skills,” “Change-Agile Leadership,” “Coaching Skills for Leaders,” and “Delivering Effective Feedback.” As the founding director and a faculty member with Corporate Coach University, the first coaching school dedicated to training organizational coaches from the United States and around the world, Jan Austin has been instrumental in the development of organizational coaching as a distinct leadership development discipline.

Jan’s educational background includes a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in psychology and a master’s degree in management. She is trained as a professional coach by Coach University and Corporate Coach University. She holds the designation of Master Certified Coach from the International Coach Federation, the coaching profession’s highest level of certification. A member of the National Speakers Association, Jan is a frequent invited platform speaker and program facilitator for corporations and professional associations.
